price of a tractor

I got a friend that keeps asking me to take his old Ford 600 off his hands. I've restored a 960 a couple years back and think that this 600 may be a neat project ( I always like the old Fords). It needs to be broke in half and a new clutch is required is what I'm hearing....It has one new rear tire and one old. I think it's 12V updated and other than that is looks original. Single stage clutch and I think 4 speeds (maybe that is standard). What is a fair price for something needing work yet has some hope for the future? He is a friend so he may not expect top dollar but at the same time I don't want someone else to tell him that I ripped him off.

Any thoughts? I have not priced old steel lately. I think a working older Ford is in the $3K-4K range so is a NEEDS WORK tractor worth $ 1K or less? Any other thoughs on price? thanks in advance, MODAY

My rule of thumb: If its not in operational condition, its worth scrap. If you wanna be fair ask him what he wants and go from there. If he really wants it gone, hel'll offer it at a good price.

Up here in the great white north if you knew the engine was good $1,000 - $1,500 would be a good price (for the buyer).

I would say you are in the zone with the price.
Average price for a clean but working Hundred Series is $3k in these parts. Problems knocks the price down fast.
Clutch on those is not hard.
If the tractor has any "goodies" on it like PS or a Sherman Combo or even a dual remote valve I might go a bit higher - $1200 +

How good a friend is he? Do you trust him, he trust you? Could you become a co-owner? No money exchange, just fix it, share it, work out the details on where it's stored, future sale/inheritance, etc...

It's no good to anyone like it is.

good tractors
friend?
give him a thousand, 'sounds' better than hundreds.
putting another thousand into it after it's yours...
...you still got a decent deal..
....and he's happy too.

I have bought and sold a lot of tractors in the past 40 years and I have seen the prices drop like a rock in the last 5 years. A ford 600 in poor condition would only bring 7-8 hundred dollars at auction and often less. I just walk away if it needs work but that may be because I am not overly fond of old Ford tractors. If you want the project then you are the one who sets the price you are willing to pay.

You can buy nice ones for 2000.No market for those old fords anymore.Everyone wants a Kubota.

What part of the country are you in?
You just don't see a Hundred Series Ford around here for under a Grand. N series yes but Hundreds no.

New tires are worth more than tractor. No fun putting in clutch. Does it run? Hydraulic work? Rusty gas tank? Smoking? Worth very little.
