Rear wheel width...

What would be a good, general setting for rear wheel width? (Unstyled JD A)

I know factors like parking space, trailer width, personal look, and what I'm going to do with it are to be considered.

The wheels were set at 84 inches, about 3 1/2 inches from axle edge. It looked pretty good. That was with 38" cast iron wheels. Now I will be putting on 36" wheel with 12.4 tires. Parades and plowing is all I would see for now.

Set the width to what you are going to need for Plowing and leave them there..

Many Plow Hitches allow adjustments for use with different wheel width spacing..

You need to know what you will be needing before you go to the field...!!!

Make SURE your plow is NOT rusty and is ready for use..!!

Set it to fit your trailer. My tractors are set at 60" center to center. to run down a 30" corn row.Looks just fine.I can also
pull a plow at that width.72" C to C (36" cornrow) is what I would recommend for you.Looks good,not too narrow(or too
wide).Narrow enough to fit your trailer and get around.Measure the narrowest part of your trailer.Set the wheels a bout 4"
narrower.

Set it for the plow.

It will look mighty odd and garentee those that know will look at you funny if you have it set to look 'pretty' when you are trailing a plow behind it,
that will look just plain dumb. :)

If you end up plowing with a 2-14 or 2-16 plow you will want the wheels set all the way in. Anything else will be too wide to pull the plow straight. Mike

So I'm getting wheel adjusting settings for plowing which makes perfect sense. Currently I don't have a plow, but hopefully in the near future. So, for now, 72" should be ok for general use? What do people have theirs set at of the alike tractor...

We never kept them that wide, 66" center to center of rear tires on 38 A Deere, 46 B Deere, 49 B Deere, 51 A Deere and 41 H Farmall. And we pulled 2-12" plows with all but the A with no adjustment problems and the A was 3-12" plows. For cultivating 40" rows only time they were out that far.
