Gaubert = Go-Bear
It's a Cajun last name.

Tchoupitoulas = CHOP-ah-too-lus
And if you say anything other than CHOP-ah-too-lus we will know you are from out of town.
It's the name of a street in New Orleans.
It's the name of a former plantation in the area and the word comes from the Chapitoulas Indians that lived in the area.

My Son lives in New Orleans and I have a heck of a time with the names there..seems that some have a twist of Cajun/Indian/French,,and most go "way" back...

As I started reading this story I was thinking that the two churches were located in Venice, Louisiana. The highway there dead-ends into Gulf backwater.

I was working on Avery Island a few years ago. We were filling an old salt mine that used to hold part of the US petroleum reserve with brine water. We had to monitor the raising water level and make sure that the surface pipeline supplying the brine was not leaking. Our Hoist man's last name was Boudreaux and the young man that stayed on the surface had the last name of Thibodaux. The food that the hoist man brought was to die for. I could live in Louisiana just for the food.
