Called about a welder

I have been looking for a 110 v welder to do auto body tin only. I have a big welder for my other repairs. I called about one today. The woman didn't know anything about it. It was her husbands. She said something about a divorce. You never know what goes on when things are divided. I wonder why the wife got his tools. My older brother got a divorce. She ended up with his Farmall M, and his jeep. How does that happen? Never gone through anything like this, Every time I here of a divorce the lady usually wins. Stan

my wife walked out the door with only what she could carry, divorce cost me 325 dollars, she wanted nothing, including the kids.

Ya never know. My wife's older sister divorced many years ago. He had two tote boxes full of decent hand tools, everything else he had including a nice looking radial arm saw was just crap or had very little value. He got the hand tools out of there a few days before he left. She kept all that crap and more for many years just to spite him. And of course he could have cared less.

My wife and I have the understanding that if one of us is that unhappy they are free to leave, however that person also has to take the kids :). In all seriousness it is probably a dollar amount of assets and if the guy buys tools and tractors that don't really depreciate and the woman buys decorating stuff that is not worth anything then they split the valuable assets. Also I wouldn't let the kids go that easy.

I have heard guys say on tin auto work the best wire one can buy will work with a cheaper welder . . Is this true?? I speak of flux core applications.

Saw a CL ad one time for a crapped out, 4 flats, fence row M Farmall. Lady got it in a divorce and was selling all his stuff. Wanted 3500 for it.
Probably what he told her that valuable antique was worth when he drug it home!

I have a 220v gas mig for doing body work. Flux wire has a messy splatter weld. My welder was made for body work, with a timed spot welding feature.

I have been doing some research. From what I have read, bare wire with Argon, and CO2 mix. I have a import welder now and am looking for a better one. It is used with Argon, and CO2 now, but the welder is not all that great. Stan

When my ex and I got divorced in '78,we divided everything right down the middle; She got the mobile home and I got the payments. She got the car and I got the payments. She got the kids and I got the payments.Actually I got my clothes,a 12 year old pickup,a 12 year old motorcycle,a coffee pot,and an electric frying pan!!!It's all good.

Not an expert - but I find on sheet metal - I think you're better off with mig vs. flux core because it doesn't have to burn as hot - with flux core you'll blow through a lot easier - which can be a complete pain in the butt to fix.

Yes. Why would you want slag in your welds? For body work I use MIG, TIG, gas, and brazing, depending on materials and thickness

Not a divorce, but decades ago I saw an ad in the MPLS Tribune for an estate sale with a ridiculously low priced, late model Caddy. Months later, the true story came out. Deceased hubby had it in his will that his paramour was to get the proceeds from sale of his car, so wifey priced it.

I missed a Hobart Handler 210 MVP on CL. What a nice welder. Can run it on both 110 and 220, has capacity for 2 spool sizes and can run a spool gun. Still looking to find a good used one.

take a look...

John

I am NOT good at welding, but I try. Have a 120 volt MIG flux core, and i cannot weld thin metal. I can sometimes weld it IF I back it up tight with other metal to hold it from blowing thru. I keep trying, but I'm beginning to think it ain't gonna happen.
