Cummins 8.3 water pump

Agco 8510 with 8.3 cummins, put a water pump in it two years ago, 1200 hours later pump fails again. Is that all the hours they are good for? Pump came from agco dealer in a cummins box, don't remember if it was a reman or new, just figured it should last longer than that.

Bearing in those pumps aren't the greatest especially if it doesn't get ran much we had blue zillion of hose 8.3s in single axles where I work and the water pumps were always dripping on the spare trucks that never got any miles ones that run everyday seemed to go forever

In the past I saw some trouble with those pumps with the guys I work for but hadn't seen any trouble lately.

At least they are pretty easy to put on. But I would say it should last longer.

RT (my 2 cents)

Well atleast they are one of the easiest water pumps to change, sounds like you just had bad luck tho and got a dud. We have over 25 trucks that use that waterpump at work and I doubt I change one a year. Always keep one on the shelf but sometimes it is pretty dusty by the time we need it

I agree, it has to be the easiest water pump on a diesel engine, they got that part right. Not a big deal, just figured they should be good for more hours than that, atleast it gives you some warning when its about to go.
