Exide batteries?

Have they improved any? I know they've went thru a couple if bankruptcies and it seemed like almost all of there stuff a few years ago was junk. Just curious if they've improved any. Needing a group 31 and my only two local options are interstate and Exide. The Exide is $40 cheaper...

Menards sells Exide, don't know if that's good or bad, but they are reasonable, right know with the 11% sale I could buy a big deep cycle for my boat for $75, that's pretty good. I have pretty good luck with all batteries, but the record is a JD Strongbox in our 4600, it's 11 years old , and it's never been out of the tractor, sit's in a cold shed all winter without a maintainer, goes 100 days without use.

I just replaced a group 31 Exide(from TSC) that was 3.5 years old. Not terrible, but would have been nice if it had gone 5 years. They are the best buy locally. About $90 with the 10% off coupon they send out every couple months.

The Exide I have has been good. Prices on batteries in general seem to jumping up. Looks like about $125 or so for a car battery now.

I have good luck with the Exide Orbital, it's a spiral cell AGM clone of the Optima battery. About $40 cheaper than the same capacity Optima. My oldest Exide Orbitals are near 15 years old and seem as reliable as the Optima.
The Optima battery in my reversed W9 loader tractor, used most every day, is 21 years old and still strong.
Corrosion free, amazingly long lived batteries if you dont abuse them. (Overcharging is the big AGM killer) I have not used the conventional Exide flooded cell batteries.

I'm a fan of exide batteries, oldest mower battery is a 2007. I think mine last longer than most because I use a batteryminder 12248 on them, desulfate and keep charged. I have about 25 batteries, have had very good luck, and rotate batteryminder to different batteries.

It would be interesting to find out where each mfg gets their batteries. Suspect most come from Mexico, placed in which ever case comes down the line.

Could be quality differences though, we need an insider to sneak out some information!

Are there any battery factories left in the US? Bet that would be an EPA horror story!

I think there are only a couple of battery manufacturers out there. They just slap different names on them so basically no matter what you get your buying the same thing. I've had good luck and bad luck with Exide so who knows?? I'm sure there are bad batches made out there from time to time. I've found that keeping a maintainer on all of them definitely gives you a few more years of life then what they are expected too.The cheap little battery that came in a new riding mower I bought had a 2 year battery in it. I got 8 years out of it by maintaining it. And thats just one example.

Judging from my experience, they are a battery that will last an average lifetime, but will always ooze electrolite on the top and will corrode your cables and hold down clamps much more so than other brands.

Been wondering about that. I know Deere batteries went to pot about 5 years ago, at least that has been my experience.

Got sick and tired of changing Deere batteries every 6 to 9 months in some stuff and have been switching to Interstate as the deeres go bad.

Hoping Deere gets back on track as most times I need to get Interstate's via HotShot (couple days usually) and most times Deere has what I need in stock. Of course in stock doesn't mean squat if you are replacing that often.
