What is the difference between corn head grease, cotton picker spindle grease and 140 gear oil. one of my bush hogs calls for cotton picker spindle grease in the gearboxes and none is available in my area. Thanks, George

Corn head grease is NLGI grade 0. Cotton picker spindle grease is NLGI grade 00. Cotton picker spindle grease is thinner than corn head grease. At 85F ambient temp, corn head grease more resembles a grease more than a gear lube. I've never seen cotton picker spindle grease, but I have to imagine that given it comes in a bottle like most gear lubes, that it more resembles a very think oil than a grease, though both are technically a grease. You can get corn head grease at any John Deere dealer (AN102562). You may be able to get or order cotton picker spindle grease from TSC (SKU-105682899). I'd just use a really heavy gear oil, unless you think it will just leak out.
