ok, I bought a FERRIS wheel bale loader today at auction. built in Herington , Ks by welch mfg inc. does anyone know anything about these or have used one? also , anyone have any pictures or literature on these as I would like to repaint it and maybe take it to some shows. almost everyone had never seen one or even knew what it was used for. I remember hauling hay with one as a kid 40 years ago.
thanks for any help.

Like Greg, I used one when home till dad bought a NH bale wagon. It was a very dark red. The wheels were black and seems like something else on it was black. Worked great, just can't remember back that far. Uncle had one where the big wheel laid on a 45 and the hay bales come up around onto the wagon. It was orange, I don't know if I ever new the name of it.

DID THEY HANDLE SQUARE BALES? we only hauled the little round bales from a roto-baler' so I guessed the did if you went to a bale wagon

I was thinking the wheel with the arms to push the bales up was yellow as well as the fold up platform at the top. Been too many years. Used it on round bales first and then on square for a while till it got hard for Dad to find haying help. Then he bought the bale wagon and I think sold the loader to a neighbor.

I think I have a color add, the man that invented the ferris wheel loader lived close by. I will have to look for it!!

ok thanks. I would like to repaint it and do it right. I thought the one we used years ago was red framed and the big "wheel' was gray. please let me know

Don't know if it'll help but I just put "FERRIS wheel bale loader" into google and came up with loads of images.

I did the same , yes some pictures and one for sale on craigslist in west Texas , nice one w/ picture , he's asking $2000.00 I gave a lot less
