Have a friend that is developing the Shingles rash. Anybody have anything that "works"? Replies would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Your friend should to the doctor as they have a medicine that is supposed to lessen the both severity and duration of it. And I've heard that the sooner one begins taking it, the better it works.

My oldest sister got them last year. So did a friend of mine. Both took the prescription and it didn't seem to last too long for them. (They are mid-60's and mid-50's age brackets.)

See a doctor asap. Tolerable if treated early and a real pain if medication is delayed. Been there and it is no fun. Couldn't wear a shirt because it caused pain and couldn't go outside without a shirt because a breeze would also cause pain.

I got my vaccination, after watching what my dad and several friends went through with the stuff. However, the shot is not a guarantee---one friend had a second case of shingles even though she had taken the shot. It was a milder case, though.

I"ve never heard of a shot being effective after shingles have been contracted. My neighbor got shingles after his shot because his immune system was compromised after cancer drug therapy.

I got my shot thru the VA, no cost. My wife got hers for about $200. Well worth it.

Lysine supplement, available at any drugstore, at least 1000 mg/day, preferably 2000. Stay away from chicken, oats, and peanuts. The lysine will raise a person's blood pressure. The Drs. antiviral meds will help if started early enough.

This person (not me) is 73, had the shot, passes the semi-annual blood tests ok, had it once before back in '85 time frame. I heard there is a new shot out that is supposed to be more successful. I had another friend with it and he couldn't hold his left eye open. Walked around for about 2 years with a piece of tape holding it open so he could see out of it.

Thanks for your reply and that of others on here.

I got mine at the Walgreen's drug store, walk in, for flu and shingles, cost $20 each or file your ins.

Has an appt. scheduled. Just wondering what might be done while waiting.

Thanks again for your kind inputs.

Like all medicines, some work some don't. Relayed the info. I use both AMA sponsored procedures and alternative methods. Stephen Sinatra, MD, board certified Cardiologist, with a clinic and training facility in addition to a really comprehensive news letter.....for anybody interested, is also one for which works best. Interesting mentality for a person such as he. I just use the one that works best with the least side effects. When I had Lymphoma terminal (we all thought) cancer in 2013, I went the AMA route (6ea 4 1/2 hr sessions of chemo) and have been clean for going on 2 years (next month)......from a facility 25 miles down the road. My BP medicine is AMA, but the rest is alternative and I have no diabetes nor high cholesterol with my 2 eggs for breakfast daily and feel great.......but I am starting to take rest stops when working and have finally realized I don't have to finish the project today. It'll be there tomorrow waiting for me.

This would be something to try in waiting for the appointment if one could get it quickly.

miserable thing
read everything and ask everybody for their home remedies.
try em all.
go to the doctor, and he will probably give you valtrex or similar.
take what he gives religiously.
Grimly fight your way thru the outbreak.
when it subsides...... go get the shot!
It does help/work.
Tough as we all are....if you have ever had the chicken pox.....the shingles virus is sleeping in you...it will wake up sooner or later.
get the shot.
