Hey Everyone,

New to this forum, so wanted to introduce myself. Have a small family farm in Southwest Wisconsin, and for the past 40 or so years, this little IH B has been keeping the pastures mowed with an equally old sickle bar mower. Still runs like a clock.

Thinking about giving it a new life and restoring it, but still on the fence. Anyways, looking forward to joining the discussion!

Welcome! You will find all you need to know here for sure! as far as your tractor is concerned, if that is original paint, I'd leave it---they are only original once and that one is in excellent original condition. If it runs as good as it looks, you've got it made in the shade! But, it is yours to do with as you please. Good tractor either way.

As said by many is it ain't broke don't fix it because if you do it sure as heck will be broken. By the way the term restore means to bring it back to what it was when new which means every thing to factory specs. And yes I am a purest when it comes to the term RESTORE

Thanks, everyone. Like I said, still on the fence on the restoration. It doesn't get used quite as hard as it once did, so the idea of at least giving it a really great coat of paint is appealing. I feel like it deserves it. Then again, that patina is part of what makes the tractor so special.

I'm with the other - keep it as is, it's nice.

Even if you restored it - it's going to look like that in a few years anyways.

Depends of course on your definitely of "restore" - perhaps you mean "rebuild" - THAT might be worth doing.
Fresh cylinders/rings/seals, etc.

Either way - it's going to cost you $1500 - $2000 for full a restore - doing it yourself, using middle of the
road paint. At that price, you'd be better off tucking this one away and buying a restored tractor if you
want something shiny.

Then you'll have two tractors, and I think you'll find that most here will agree that two tractors is three
times better than having one.

Many tractors get traded and painted at around fifteen years old and it appears that your B did too, and then after maybe another fifteen years or so it came to your family. Go ahead and paint it if you like, it is not original.
