I tried some Yukon Gold taters this year. Started digging up a few. First impression: Great for mashed taters and not much else. Fall apart boiled. I expect they will fall apart canned also. Anybody have any experience with how long they keep? Any one try making french fries or chips out of this variety?

The Arctic Circle fast food chain uses yukon gold for their french fries. My kids love them. I call them yucky gold fries, I don't like them. I guess to each his own.

We grow Yukons and love them but we don't can them so I can't give an opinion on canning.
We have had success storing them up to ten months where it's cool and dark. They are used for baking and mashed potatoes only.

My family really likes them......I slice them up, put in the frying pan, add some coconut oil, dice up a couple pieces of bacon, about a half onion and cook until the potatoes are browned....make you want to slap your mama!!

I grew them one year. Lots of disease problems for me. A friend grows them in TN and does well.

I've never had a problem boiling them, you have to quit when done, can't leave them forever like a hard white. They probably won't can very well. (Make that at all). Yukon's are very good cut like fries and baked on a cookie sheet. Also very good skillet fried. Yukon's would be my second favorite potato after rose gold.

To me they are almost like Russets ( baking potatoes ) never cared for them and always grew red .

I just buy reds any more. Taste great and the other day read an article about reds vs whites. Didn't know the arthur but the line made
sense. Something about whites that's not in reds that your body doesn't like. I do buy OreIda frozen fast food f. fries however when
I'm frying catfish and hush puppies and all the trimmings. I saw a video on how these guys are made and really liked it. They fry up
good and crisp and don't taste mealy, something I don't like in a ff.
