A friend of my dads herd I had sold some wood and don't have a splitter so he had 2 sitting around and made me an amazing deal I could have them if I got one working and then we would be partners the first is one he started making but didn't finish it runs but needs the hydraulic hoses hooked and the cylinder eyelet welded the other is an old ford one I got it running it doesn't split a whole but it works it has no pump or cylinder does anyone have any info on one?

Sounds like a deal to me. You might want to put a retaining pin in the hitch pin, it could come out on a big bump. Jim

That's a Comet centrifugal clutch on the engine. I have the same one on a Carl Heald kit three wheeler we got in 1978. I'd hate to think how many hours/miles are on that clutch.

I've never seen a splitter that was solely mechanical (other than the screw type for PTO or wheel use). It seems Ford had their hand in a little of everything.

I have never seen a Ford screw type wood splitter. I have had a Super splitter that used flywheels and a rack and pinion gear but never a gas powered screw type splitter.

Yeah it is different than anything I've seen the pun is supposed to be a lawnmower pin I didn't have one at the time so I used a screwdriver

I saw a few of the mechanical splitters back in the 80's. They had a electric motor on them though. Never saw one run. I wonder how well they worked?
