o/t Bennachie Scotland

It was my eldest son's 32 nd birthday yesterday and part of what he wanted to do was a family and friends walk to a local landmark, Bennachie. We have had some real poor weather this year and this was one of the best days we have had with some nice sunshine and temperatures nearing 20 degree C which for Scotland isnt bad and we even missed rain for a day. This is a local landmark that can be accessed from various points with trails of differing levels of difficulty. The youngest person was around 30with the eldest nearing 70, we all had a great time and of course the views from the top are worth the effort. Hope you folks enjoy the scenery.

Never been the that area of Scotland. Pretty much he only place I got to when there was Holy Lock and the town that was near by. Wish I could have seen more but they did not let us go many places when I was in the Navy

Is that purple-ish vegetation the famous Scottish heather of song and poem?

Also, I notice some of those stones are laid in courses. Is that some ancient worship site?

Hey, Old, what boat were you on? I rode the USSBN Thomas Jefferson out of the Lock during 1966 and 1967! We had to man fire hoses topside to sweep the nuke protesters back into the Lock! What fun!

I was on the USSBN633 blue crew. Did a top side watch in Jan of 1977 and it was from 12am to 0400 and on my way back into the boat I slipped on the ladder and fell about 3/4 of the way down. Still fighting that one with the V.A. due to a bad knee caused by that fall

Was stationed on the drydock there from '85-'87. Beautiful country. Rained a lot, we'd wake up to a nice morning and decide to go sightseeing but by the time we'd get ready to go it would be raining.
Used to let us knock off early if it was a nice day...sunshine liberty we called it.

I landed in Prestwick back in the early '60's on my way to RAF Mildenhall. Enjoyed the scenery then. What was interesting to me at the time was the steel matt used for runways during the war. From the air you could see it clearly and there was lots of it on the trip just scattered everywhere. I guess that's the way you did things then. Scatter them out so that the enemy has a hard time finding you.

While there I enjoyed field trips to the countryside and especially the old Roman ruins. I missed that part of history in my early educational years. I do recall many Pheasants in the country side (red, green, and white neck sticking up from the field watching us go by) and one "Bloke" in particular with his tweed apparel in his Woolen Tam and hunting jacket with leather patches on the elbows.

Ya my right knee is and has been since that fall bigger then my left knee. Most of the time I have to walk with it locked or I can end up falling down since it will give out with out any warning. I have a knee brace I can wear but I hate the thing LOL
