Soy Beans after wheat

I was up Rrlund's way yesterday picking up a set of cultivators for my H and seen a farmer planting beans in wheat stubble. This was over by Beal City. I have seen it done before and I know some years they do ok but most around me stopped even trying to do it many years ago. I reckon to each their own.
 
Only seen it done once or twice here in Ontario in thirty years---hardly worth combining each time.

I would bet that he was planting some thing other than Soybeans. It is too late for them to yield this year. I would bet that it was some type of cover crop instead of soybeans.
 
A few still try it in the ionia area. Most quit. A guy north of town will do it on some irrigated ground and said he usually does okay on them. He usually gets them in the day after the wheat is off though. Does seem a little late.
 
I always do it but this year has been a miserable failure. I haven't seen anything like it. No field has germinated well or in a consistent time frame. I had the Coop out and he was just sure it was due to compaction, but all of my no till fields came up great. I think it is chemical. I need to go back and look, but I seems like I put something extra in the tank when I sprayed those wheat acres. I think it's carryover. I will leave the six fields that I didn't disk under. I'm embarrassed to have cars pass them in the daylight, though!
 
Been doing it for over 30 years here in Tennessee.. Corn followed by wheat then beans. Used to the beans were not consider a full crop but now days pretty easy to have a good bean crop after wheat.
 
The field next to it had a combine in it running and the field on the other side of it had a baler in it rolling straw.
 
never will make beans in Cent. Mi. Probably one or two year away seed and just doing it to put some cheap nitrogen in the ground this fall when plowed down.
