Muffler Help

The Stanley muffler on my MH44 is about as good as a straight pipe, any recommendations on a GOOD muffler that fits on a 2" pipe nipple?

There's a guy over on the IH board that has perfected the original muffler for them (Bermuda Ken I think). Ask over there. I'm betting one of those could be modified a bit for your use. You're good at modifications!!

Ive noticed the same thing on my dads ZA MM. The Stanley muffler I bought for mine in 1986 works well but not the one dad bought a few years later. It is so loud I have to wear ear plugs.

bought a stanley muffler for my AC WD a couple yrs ago
could look st8 through it and was load
was in TSC and looked at all their mufflers all stanly's and the same thing open st8 through
there was however one that had a baffle in it
was about 2" shorter and about 1" bigger around 2" opening and exit
made the WD very quiet and was cheaper too
gotta look them over and check for a baffle
try your local muffler shop I'm sure you can find something they would ave that can be modified to work

Seams like I used a muffler for a Farmall H or M on the MH 44 gas and diesel we had and they worked good. Bandit

I had the same problem. I finally went to a salvage yard and found two that had baffles in them. I repainted them with 2000 degree Rust oleum silver. The paint is better than new and nice and quiet!

go to an autostore.
pick your noise level.
after seeing the price of some model tractor mufflers......
.....hmm...2" OD pipe....autostore...2"ID inlet CherryBomb muffler...$20
paint it flat black.( Farmall? It's already red)
looks like a tractor muffler....sounds good.
Especially nice sound on a 2cyl little Deere.
Actually pretty quiet on a 4cyl Farmall.

edit for a ps....The CherryBomb is also made [i:c558f0c3e9]much[/i:c558f0c3e9] heavier duty than the modern aftermarket tractor mufflers

and another ps lol...had a upright 2cyl deere...2" straight pipe. sounded awesome, but was a bit much.
A 2" slip-in baffle made for a big Harley tamed it some and kept the 'look'

Interesting. The motorcycle guys want to make noise, and the tractor guys want to make quiet.
Guess we just don't need people to look at us when we are out in a field working.

I hear you....well, actually I don't; left ear hearing is poorer than my right from watching behind as a kid on our old 44.

On my MF 180, went down to my local muffler shop. Got a generic baffled oval shaped muffler. They expanded inlet a bit to fit manifold and welded a short angled tail pipe on outlet. Working just fine and I can hear a better.

I would bet you have a round muffler. The oval ones are usually quieter. I have a couple Stanley ovals that are good. They just aren't as thick and long lasting as a Donaldson.

Cutting the top of the exhaust pipe to a 45 degree angle, facing forward, will direct the biggest share of the noise forward and away from your ears...
