I live in a rural area of central NY, and my son was running in one of the demolition derby's at our county fair. Before the start of the demo, the National Anthem is played over the loudspeakers. Three quarters of the way through, the sound system stopped working - the crowd picked it right up and finished it.
Then a young girl from the crowd got up and offered to do it solo - she did a great job.
Gave me chills - there's hope for this country yet

Wow that must have been great. It is not the average citizen that is a problem in this country, You have tooooo many special interest wakados that maybe make up 2 or3 percent that have everyone by the shorts. What has happened to good old common sense?
Up the road from me they have a local brass band on Wednesday nights at the township building. It is a very nice little show and they are pretty darn good! The anthem is the first thing played and you still get a good tingle!

The problem is that the one or two percent get all the media!!!! Most Americans are good & get no media attention!

May God always bless each and every one.

I won't name the college, but there is a college here in northern Indiana, Elkhart County that a few years ago proudly stopped doing the national anthem for sporting events because they deemed it offensive and overly patriotic. They were very proud to do so...and caught a lot of backlash for it. I don't know if they ever reversed course or not, but I can only hope that any and every team that competes against them kicks the living stuff out of them.

At the start of every County Commissioner meeting, we, and the entire audience, recite the Pledge of Allegiance. And we do include the words "Under God".

I've always gone with the crowd and put my hand over my heart, although several years ago the Marine Corps issued a directive that I could render a hand salute in those conditions. I'll have to try it and see if anyone notices.

I WANT to hear Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" before every game or race...!!!

THAT makes ME Proud..!!

part-time pete,

One case of patriotism I've witnessed was at a NASCAR race in Virginia. One fellow spectator failed to remove his hat during the anthem. Two or three accented Virginians took note and gave proper warning for him to remove his cap.

I've told this before and some posting folks were upset, but at the end of the anthem, the person with the hat was removed from the audience with necessary assistance.

Your little story made my day.I still believe people in general take our freedoms for granted. But I know that there are those who gave so much for our freedoms. We can -and will not let those be forgotten. Your story of a song or a salute bring it all home that this country is the best.I thank you...

similar thing happened at a sporting event at our school sound system went out ,2 of the players moms offered to sing it and that they did, accapello no sound system and knocked it out in fine fashion.

Goose; 2 or 3 years ago ,DOD said that retirees and AD in civilian clothes could render the"hand salute"when appropriate.
