Davis loader used on Ferguson TO-35

I have two questions regarding the subject.
1) What is the throw length of the main dual action hydraulic cylinders
2) Could I reduce the speed of motion of the hydraulic ram by putting some type of flow restrictor valve in line after the pump outlet.

1) IDK, should be easy enough to measure, though. I have a Davis for a Ford and I do not know if all the cylinders are the same, so measuring yours would be best.

2) You CANNOT restrict the pump output or you will overheat the oil/break the pump/stall the engine. You CAN restrict the oil leaving the hand valve to the lift cylinders, as that will cause the relief valve to protect the pump.

WHY do you need to restrict the cylinder speed, can't you just "feather" the hand lever to make the loader lift at the speed you want?

If it's like a Davis loader I had at one time it was deadly how fast it came down. You couldn't be careful enough to let it down slowly. we put a
flow restricter in the discharge line, and made a different loader out of it. Much safer.
