Be carefull out there.

Just talked to a good friend on the phone. His adult son has just been terribly burned while working on the farm,.

Air lift, burn unit, skin graft, the whole 9 yards.

Here's a link with some more info. If anyone knows Ron Kammer and want to help, click here:

Sorry to hear that, burns have to be the most painful injury.

But I don't understand him not having insurance. Say what you will about external_linkcare, anyone can get insurance at a price they can afford.

Tom that is not true with external_link care. If your single and make $30K you get ZERO help on the premiums. Then the extra stuff a basic policy has to cover raised the price. So a single male with no health troubles can still have to pay $400-500 a month for health insurance. $6K when your making $30K is not affordable.

Also the crappy basic police would be a $5000 deductible with 80/20 after that. So he could still easily be on the hook for tens of thousands of health care costs.

Seriously? You believe that? You dont get around much do you. My brother had to get external_linkcare for his wife when he turned 65 and had to apply for Medicare. His wife's external_linkcare significantly increased their overall insurance cost, making it unaffordable. The affordable Care act is an oxymoron, designed by a whole Pascal of lying morons. When you hear "you have to pass it to know what's in it" any sane being knows there's something rotten when "buy" something before you can know what's in it. Both parties a responsible for this additional money grab scheme by the government.

I googled Florida health insurance, put in a zip code for Orlando, a 30 year old male, non smoker can get a policy from about $100 per month?

I've seen this in my own community, there are sphaghetti dinners for folks that are ill, and can't provide for their families. It is a pretty sad comment on our society when somebody falls sick, and they basically have to beg. We should be better than that.

Agreed, a good friend down the road falls into the crack of making his enough to get no real help, and also still have trouble eating and makng a car and house payment and then fork over for insurance. ACA did not solve all peoples problems.

Well, Ron's one of my best friends. We consider him and his family, family. I'm posting it for two reasons, 1, to warn others about the danger of fire, and 2, to try to get him some help.

"Both parties a responsible for this additional money grab scheme by the government."

Not even one nnalert in the House or Senate voted "for" the ACA.

OK, now what is the deductible per year, and what is the co-pay??? When you add them in, that $100/month policy doesn't cover much of anything. Been there. Done that.

Just for the sake of arithmetic:

A single guy making $30,000/year. His premium, even under ACA would still be in the $400 to $600 range per month. That is a hefty payment in addition to basic living expenses. $30,000 for a decent car, $150,000 for a livable home, $3.65/gallon of gas, and the list goes on. Now, the poor guy has to pony up the first $8,000 of his medical expenses before the insurance kicks in. Then he has to still shell out 20% or more in co-pay for any medical care he needs. Does this sound like a good deal to you??? Sounds to me like it will take way more than he can afford if he gets sick or injured.

Guess just depends where your priories are. As the head of a household I thought was my job to take care of my family. Which meant I needed health insurance! Vic

Vic don't get me wrong. We (wife and I) have coverage but I know people, some of them in my family, who make too much to get assistance/subsidies but with pre-existing house payments and other bills don't make enough to eat and pay for coverage. These are the people who they are talking about. Sure some 16 million who didn't now have coverage but no one is talking about those who lost coverage and now can no longer afford it. Plus now we are going to see more of the same as companies A. drop medical coverage (as some have started doing) or B. raise rates and even more people will find that they can't afford it.

What income level???? That is the KEY. You need to add that in. Your assuming external_link Care is all great. You have to know the income level of the person applying not just the age and gender. The trouble is anyone actually with a fair job but no company healthy plans are hurting. IF your a low wage earner than external_link Care looks great to you.

Vic how does someone pay 30-40% of their take home pay for insurance coverage????????? If you have a family of four and make $43,000 you get ZERO help from this program. Then the traditional family plan can easily cost $1200-1500 a month. SO lets figure on the low end, $1200 x 12=$14400. $43,000 minus taxes will be closer to around $32,000-33,000. So $14,400 is closer to 40% rather than 30% of take home pay.

Many think I am not correct on my numbers but I have two sons that both fall into the loop hole area of this disaster of a plan has. You make enough for not help but not enough to really afford the full cost of the insurance.
