I had a knee replacement in APR and prior to that a knee surgery about 5 years ago. It won't feel good for anywhere from 2-8 weeks. 2 for orthoscopic and longer for the knee replacement. I'm getting around good but still have a little pain from time to time.

Drs. and nurses tell us old geezers "Now this will take time to heal" and we all go Yeah yeah yeah, but they really mean it, for us old pharts, it takes TIME! Go SLOWLY! Do your exercises very slowly, do what they say. You'll get there.

BEE ENCOURAGED, U R ALMOST OVER IT...FORCE THE P.T., SO U DONT LOSE UR RANGE OF MOTION...WALK FAST ON UR WALKER...U. R. THE MAN...
BE BLESSED, GRATEFUL, PREPARED, NIK 2 VA KNEES IN 2 YRS, WORK GREAT

Hey Larry, my wife had her right knee total replacement done 3 years ago. She is still not "healed". Her Dad had a partial and his recovered way faster.

i had my left replaced about 4 years ago the d pain meds made me half sick until I threw them away mrs 730 and tall kid were ready to send me over the hill until then

I had my left knee replaced 9 months ago. I took Motrin 800s for pain, I couldn't cut the heavy duty stuff for pain they gave me. I kept it iced, went to therapy, three times a week for four weeks. I did my exercises twice a day and did twice as many as they told me to do. I would force it to bend at least 5-6 times a day. I iced it down after working it which helped allot. After two weeks I was walking without a cane and was able to go back to doing my chores and driving a tractor. It was no picnic but I can say now I'm sure glad I had it done. I never thought my knee would feel this good again and be able to walk without a limp. Hopefully yours will feel better soon as it does take a while.

Had knee replaced after leaving hosp NO MORE pills got along good went to PT and excersized much at home with wts and elastic piece got along just fine but its up to the person how much work they will do on their own.

I have been told that shoulder surgery is much worse as it makes many more movements than the knee and takes more time to heal. Had my right shoulder done 3 yrs ago and have 99.9% use and no after effects.

Both knees at the same time!! That's tough.

Three years since I had one replaced. 12 days? I would think you are about over the worst of it. I would think having both done at the same time would be tougher to deal with the first few weeks. Hang in there. It will get better, and a year from now you will be sooooo glad you had them done.

Honestly it takes about a year. I'm suprised the doc didn't tell you that. Did you wake up when he was hammering the new joints into your leg ? I did . Drugs don't do anything but make you grooggy. The key for me is and was the exercise bike. I go to the gym 5 days and start on the bike every time. My life was ruined by no cartilage and although the doc screwed mine up and had to do a "revision" to both knees the amount of pain I got rid of is fantastic.
