We bought a JD 500C on auction sight unseen. It was listed as inoperable. The tractor comes with manuals but we won’t be able to see the manuals until we show up to pick up the tractor. I am hoping that you can tell me what type of batteries are needed. The administrator (our point of contact) can’t help us.

This is what the parts catalog calls for:

Voltage 6
Standard Group 3EH
Cold Cranking Amps at 0° F (-17.8 °C) 850.000
Cold Cranking Amps at 32° F (0° C) 1,020.000
Reserve Capacity (Minutes) 25A at 80 °F (26.7 °C) 280.000
Overall Length 19.210 IN
Overall Width 4.270 IN
Overall Height 8.720 IN
Terminal Type_ A (Top Post)

DEERE part # AR45450

Is the system 6 Volts or do they tie 2 batteries in series to make 12 Volts and have the additional starting amps?

Original setup was two six-Volt batteries on series for a 12-Volt system.

It's possible someone has made changes to use a large CCA 12-Volt battery, it wouldn't be the first time, and trouble is you ain't gonna know for sure 'til you get there.
