Raising a 3 point hitch attachment in reverse on an 8N

Can the 3 point hitch lift an attachment to allow reverse movement to make a K turn with an 8 N. When I push in the clutch to shift from first gear to reverse when stopped, the lift arms relax and descend to the ground. Sorry to be dense, but this is a new old tractor to me. Just love it and plan to use it with a blade in back to level my dirt road.

on't matter if in reverse or not, if it drops that fast , you have a bad leak in the hydraulics!

#1 you need to ask this down in the 9N/2N/8N forum
#2 you need a IT-FO-4 manual so you have and idea of how to work on it.
#3 the 3 point should not drop that fast so you have a problem in the 3 point.
#4 you need to pull the inspection cover the one with the dip stick and have a look see what is going on. I'll bet your lift cylinder rings are leaking real bad so the top cover need to be pulled and new piston and seals put in and that new improved NAA type piston and seals are the best

Yes,an 8N will lift in reverse. As was said,if it falls when the clutch is pushed, you have a bad internal leak.

Just to be clear the pump is a piston and Scotch Yoke unit driven by the PTO shaft. The pump would pump equally well running in either direction, but that is not even an issue because the PTO shaft turns the same direction whether you are going forward or in reverse!

As the others have told you, if the lift has lifted, then drops when you mash the clutch to the running board you have an internal oil leak in the lift mechanism... cylinder piston rings, or the relief valve, plus some other possibilities.
