Road trip with grandson

My grandson Gage asked me if I could make him a gocart. Well, I could, but I knew where there was one. My brother bought one new for his kids, when they out grew it he gave it to me for my kids. When they out grew it I gave it to my cousin. Now his kids have out grown it so it came back to me for my grandkids. Gage went with me to get it, about 280 miles each way. Lol. Yeah I know, could likely have bought a replacement cheaper than the gas to get it but it was a chance to visit relatives and spend time with Gage. We left at 05:too early. Lol. First stop was for some road fuel, I told Gage I was getting coffee and a doughnut and asked if he wanted one too. He said yes. When I turned around this was what I saw. Lol! I asked if he was sure, he said he was doin whatever I did. I did tell him I like a little hot chocolate in mine, except in Oh., so I made sure his was mostly hot chocolate.

We did have some snacks on the way.

This pulled in next to us at the gas stop. Gage said it was super awesome.

We did maintain a healthy, low fat life style on our trip.

We got up thereabout 10:30 in the morning. My cousin took us to it right away. It had sat for several years, but a little gas and she started on the second pull. It's hard to tell from his face how he felt about it.

We let him run one tank of gas through it, didn't take long since it was running out the bottom of the carb faster than it burned it. Then we hung around and visited with my cousin Joel, my aunt Elva, anf Joel's youngest Natalie, my god daughter.

We left about 3 in the afternoon. Gage said he wasn't tired, but we hadn't made it off the gravel road yet when I took this pic.

The engine is totally shot, but then I wouldn't want to guess how many hours it has on it. Tomorrow I'll pick up a new engine and put that on. I posted a short video of him on it.

I really enjoyed this trip. We did discuss Joel's case dc project he is working on, so tractors were involved.

I really feels good to spoil the grand kids every now and then. LOL HE will remember this day the rest of his life. Which of you had the most fun?????

Great story. Your video is listed as private so you will need to change that on Youtube so that the rest of us can view it.

My grand children keep a stable of 3 karts at my shop. They have put a million miles on them probably, but we enjoyed every moment of it. Now two are too old for it and one lives too far away. The one remaining one that comes is the only girl so she brings a friend for the weekend and there are a wild pair of 13 year old girls terrorizing everything in sight. I wouldn't trade all the work for anything in the world. The wife always said I was reliving my childhood. How right she was too! They even got her on them once in a while.

Oh yes, I had one when I was a kid. Was the only toy I remember dad buying me. I'm sure I putba million miles on it too. Wish I still had it, but it got stolen.

This will be one of the stories he will tell his grandchildren when they are old enough for the family go-cart.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Dad bought us one we had to put together from Carl Heald when I was a kid. It made it through all of us boys and the grandkids. It is sitting in the corner of my machine shed awaiting the next generation. I should probably try getting it started and taking a lap in it. You know, to limber up the engine. Like that one, the Briggs on mine has a million miles. My brothers wore out the original - the engine that's on there is easily 35 years old.
