Hi fellas, bit of a shock last Friday. I went out to
change my irrigation and found someone had come in the night and stole my pump. They took the wiring from the panel to pump including float switch. It was 2 hp Gould blue with black motor.
I couldn't believe it! ! The pump was running at the time. P ss t offf. Ed will

I had two vehicles stolen from me last December. These were vehicles that needed to be trailered, as they didn't run. I reported the theft to the cops and, by sheer one-in-a-million odds, they were found in February of this year, along with about $75K of other stolen stuff. They were located about an hour and a half away from me on the thief's property. I had to take off work to retrieve them. I had to buy several tanks of gas for the mileage I acrued. I had to pay $150 for the impound fee. I also had to rent a UHaul trailer to get them home.
So when I'm there picking them up at the impound yard, the cop doing all the paperwork tells me to file for the "victim's compensation fund" to get my money back. I did and they tell me that I'm not eligible for it because I live in a different county. The thief is not serving any time and the thief's home county DA is dragging their feet. There were many thousands of dollars of stolen items from my county recovered on the thief's property also, but the DA in my county won't press charges and told me that they MIGHT press charges SOME day, they just will take a wait-and-see stance in the mean time. (Yea, right!)
So anyway, I'd bet money you own't get it back. Try to get over it as quickly as possible.

I could write several pages on thefts that NOTHING ever got done about it ,even involved transporting stolen goods across state lines to be sold so the law claimed, one arrogant detective ask why I had not called them on the previous 2 break ins and I told her had it not been for the company requiring me too to get the tools replaced I would not have call them for this one as it was a waste of time to fill out the paperwork let alone the lost time for a crew and equip while we had to wait for a least a 1/2 day for them to show up and never retrieve any stolen goods, we need to go back to the chain gang work crews sun up to sun down and none of the luxuries of the so called correctional systems today, and put some of the judicial hierarchy in there with them

If you're really that upset and can spare a few bucks sue the thief, go after lost wages, cost of recovery and legal fees. About all you'll get is a judgement but with that you can make the thief and the Sheriff's department where he lives miserable, about the 2nd or 3rd time they have to go out there to seize assets to fulfill your judgement they might decide it would be easier to charge him & lock him up. With some diligence you can raid bank accounts and tax refunds. Don't think about it as recovering your losses, think about it as a hobby.

What we do , is start looking in the pawn shops and advertise on the local classifieds and sometimes these items surface . Most theives around here want quick money .

had the exact same thing happen to me when they stole my skidsteer & took it 200 miles away. I found out who took it & had to pay $2500 to retrieve it & 3 attachments they took at the same time. They arrested him for grand larceny then dropped all charges. Never did tell me why. And this was after he confessed! I think it p.o.ed them when I solved the crime but they were sure never gonna do anything.

Dopeheads, they steal anything that is handy and can be sold for another rock or blunt. If your area is anything like mine, small town/rural, then I would bet the local Law know the most likely suspects well, our Sheriffs department knows all the dopeheads and what type of items they specialize in stealing. A friends 4-wheeler was stolen one night last fall and the Deputy that answered the call the next morning went straight to the theifs house and got it back, they did nothing to the theif because it costs money to lock that kind of trash up but at least they got the bike back.

Our Judicial system is more interested in making money in fines than going after and incarcerating bad guys. Remember when the squad cars would say "to serve and protect"? Now they should read "serve and collect". Very few felony arrest in my county, yet meth and other drugs are everywhere.

Heard of a local guy who had some items stolen from his shop/storage building, and an interesting story. Several items including a set of one-off custom wheels for a Dodge pickup. The victim just happened to notice a Dodge pickup for sale that had his stolen wheels on it, and a number to call on the truck. When he called and inquired about the truck he mentioned those were very different wheels, and if he minded where he came across them. The guy selling the truck told him the name of the individual he purchased them from, which just happened to be the grandson of a neighbor of the victim. He knew immediately who had stolen all the items, so he proceeded to the thief's house, walked in with shotgun in hand and informed him he had until the next day to place everything back in front of his building or he would return with the gun and planned on using it. Supposedly all the items including those custom wheels were laying in front of his shop the next day. Apparently the kid believed him, and I doubt he will steal from him again (and word will probably get around to other would be thieves in the area). No law enforcement, no forms to fill out, no impound fees needed, quick turnaround, etc, but would definitely not work for everyone.

I wish I could find out how to attach tax refunds-could recover some of the judgments I have against people- including the ones who stole thousands of dollars of farm equiptment from the home farm.

A judge put a Judgment against my haft bro's drivers licence. He never drove again he would not pay the state the money are did not have $1000 to get them back.

I had a gal write me a bad check a lawyer had a judgment put against her body... The story goes she had to pay up are set in jail till she could come up with the money She found the money to pay me :D

Both of these deals were performed by a retired Lawyer that had noting else to do. I gave him the info and told him he could have it all I got haft of my money.

I guess the moral of the story is everyone has something you can go after...

Yeah, it seems like if they confess it pretty much kills all thoughts of getting a conviction........guess that is a ticket to 'rehab' and 'community servce' as restitution.

This week I had the batteries/cables cut out of my combine and the tractor on the baler next to it at the edge of a field. There when I parked it in the evening, gone the next afternoon when I came back to it. State police took a report... Went in to the hardware to buy more batteries, they asked why I needed so many this time of year, so I relayed my story. Get told about one of the local BTO's relatives who just got caught stealing batteries for scrap from various local farms. Will see if the Police put 2+2 together and if anything comes of it...

Tom, you tried filing for an execution of a judgment? I went through this with a drunk driver once. If you get a judgment in Iowa, and they still don't pay, you go back to the judge and demonstrate you haven't been paid. The loser is not notified. The judge will command the county sheriff to see if the loser has the money in an account anywhere. If they do, the sheriff will take it and pay it over to you. If they don't have money, personal property of fair market value equal to the judgment can be seized to satisfy the judgment.
I sued the guy and won. Everybody told me I would never see the money. It took a little while, but I got what I was owed. The judge tacked on filing fees and lost wages.
