My MIL wants to go to Idaho to visit her sister. MIL is near 80 and her sister is in her 80's. So we may be driving her out. Will be the first "vacation" as such as the wife an I have ever taken. I expect I'll be bored to death. Someplace in the middle of ID with nothing to do? OH, MIL will love it. She's a good old girl.

Watch National Lampoon's Vacation first. At least you'll be able to laugh at yourself when some of those things happen to you. lol

You will not be bored at all, All the way there will be a gradual transition to mountains and high desert. Mighty fine viewing from herds of deer and antelope, to the freshest air in the nation (if the fires abate a little). Royce lives there, (possible YT encounter) Jim

Where about in Idaho? If you are headed
for the central part of the state and
want scenery go through Jackson Wyoming
and up over the Teton pass into Driggs
Idaho. Go west out of
Driggs and you will end up hitting I15.

Most likely be taking I94 west out of MN through ND and MT. Late Sep time frame. I94 is about 20 miles west of me so up through Fargo and west. As far as I know we will be just about the middle of the state. Once I get an actual location I'll post it.

Middle of ID? You can always explore the Snake River Canyon. Drive north a bit and you will be in the mountains. You'll find some farming wherever there is irrigation water available. Be real leery of crawling into any old mines though; some of them are real death traps. Ask the locals what there is to see in the area that you are in. You might just enjoy the whole trip.

Possible boring Vaca , bring lots of car detail products and kill time cleaning/waxing truck. Check computer for any museums around the area.

Don't know if you are interested in potato harvest but it will be in full swing about that time. When i was on the harvest we phlled out of Idaho around Labor day or the first week of September. The spud harvest was just getting into full swing about then. Take along a jacket. Their air is nice and dry and real cool in the morning and evening that time of year

Rick:

If you get too bored, contact Bryce Frasier (Northern Idaho
panhandle), he'll probably let you "play" with some of his
tractors. LOL

:>)

Most states, cities, towns and counties have online tourism sites. If you let them know when and where you will be visiting, they will happily send you information about all the events, points of interest, restaurants and lodging in the area. Many let you check off what you interests are to narrow down the list. At a minimum they are a good source for free maps. Try to get an up-to-date road map for each state you will be spending time in.

Enjoy your trip.

I have a neighbor that left to work some claims he bought NW of Boise. Maybe you could help him. He fixed up an enclosed trailer with living quarters and to hual his small drilling rig. I have another neighbor that has 2 donkeys that I told the first guy to buy those for his wife to ride and load supplies on. Hope he doesn't get snowed in. I don't know if his 2015 Dodge diesel would get him out.

Really, you will love the country. It is beautiful. Enjoy!!

Just talked to my MIL. Grangeville is the area. Wife's aunt has a ranch out there. That's where we will be going. The uncle, good guy, passed last year. Aunt isn't in very good shape. The sons are running the ranch. As far as potato harvest I can watch that here. Offit (spelling?) has a bunch of fields in this area. One not 1/4 mile from where I'm setting. Because of the proximity of homes and lakes they spray with a chopper. It was buzzing that field this morning.

I'm sure I will find something to do.

(It"s Offut)....we went to Yellowstone a few years ago, pretty much same route, came back through Cody Wyoming, Black Hills. How is that knee replacement? Just had my one month checkup on the new hip....going well, doing the exercises.

Thanks.

The knee is doing good. Don't have to wear that brace any longer and no cane! Still gets a little sore when I do too much and I can't kneel on it. Wish VA had done it 5 years ago.

If your going in September consider the possibility of snow. Grangeville is a nice valley in the mountains. While there see if Ted is still alive there. He has a great tractor collection of many colors. Check in at the Deere dealer. As of about 4 years ago he still worked in there with them on projects. He was about 80 then, the reason for seeing he is still alive. He had 2 pole barns full of tractors from VAC case to Rumley advance. He even had some tracked tractors in the other shed. I would love to have his sheds.

He says he's goins on vacation- he ain't going an lookin forward to babysettin kids....lol
