JD 3020 Engine Oil for LP Tractor?

No response on JD forum, so I'm asking here: Is it okay to use 15-40 diesel oil in the John Deere 3020 LP/Propane engine? If so, then it makes my life a bit simpler. Thanks, kelly

Won't hurt it a bit. Diesel oil has a heavier detergent package. LP engines run clean because of the cleaner fuel.

LP and NG engines are sometimes speced to use a low ash or no ash oil. High additive oil leaves more deposits on the intake valves as there is no flow of gasoline wash off the valves.
The engine is burning a vapour fuel that burns clean . It isn't the stinking diesel of years ago loaded with acidic sulphur.

Use an ash free oil in a propane engine, oil will stay clean but will get so thick it will not lubricate properly. Learned this in 1969-expensive lesson!

Try synthetic like Shell Rot. T, 5W-40. It's up to the latest C rating. LPs run hot anyway, at least my 4020 did. Almost couldn't stay in the saddle on a hard working hot day.
