front gear oil. i guess 20-40 is ok. filter type change? how much do i need for a complete oil change?

one more q: whats that little lever near the up/down lever on the right side for? either horizontal or vertical.

Fred, at this point, the best investment you can make is an owners manual and or an FO-4 service manual both readily available on this site or many others. Bob

The hydraulics and transmission fluid run from the same sump there is 3 drain plugs its usually easier to start with the smallest plug I use 80-90wt gear oil in mine but you can use UTF marked for old ford tractors the rear sump holds 5 gallons but it will probably take less with the sludge in the bottom take the bottom bolt out of the plated that the dipstick is on and when fluid runs out it is full there is no filter on the hydraulics. The engine holds 5 quarts the manual says you can use 30 wt at a warm climate if you live in a cold climate 10-30wt will work fine I run 15-40 which will work to the filter part number is Napa gold 1010. I highly recommend to read Bruce's tips here's a link and good luck!

One more thing the little lever under the seat your talking about switches the hydraulics from position control to draft mode in position control in position control the 3pt stays at the position you set it via the lift lever. If you move that little lever under the seat down it puts the lift in draft mode draft mode is for plowing in draft mode the lift works off the big spring behind seat to raise and lower the plow when plowing to provide good traction
