clutch removal problem

i have a MF 50 and the clutch is out, it actually fell out the bottom in pieces and now the tractor will not seperate obviously something is hung up, i would appreciate some input. thanks ron

Has it separated any at all? If it refuses to budge, as in still mated up tight, I would check and recheck again to be sure no bolts were missed!

If it's moved "some" but won't go any further, something about the clutch spline or the pilot bearing is holding it. Any way to get to the pressure plate bolts? If so, remove them, see if it will come apart.

A method I have used to separate frozen splines is to drive in a wedge or a prybar, intentionally misalign the mating surfaces, spin it with the starter while holding pressure against it. Be careful!

I was called by a guy a number years ago that could not get a JD 4020 to split, he could get it about an inch to seperate but it always sprung back. He thought the tranny input shaft was hung up in the clutch disc

When i got there i saw He had forgotten to take one little frame bolt out :)

thanks steve i thought on the same line as you to solve the problem and it was really hung up i ended up using my porta-power and got it seperated, it looked like someone had dropped a grenade in there but both discs were like new and undamaged so someone must have installed incorrectly. my question now is what clutch to put in there as i understand there are a number of clutches for the MF 50 and if you can tell me how to tell which is correct i would appreciate it, i need all except the discs the flywheel is all broken up as well. thanks ron
