The thread earlier got me to wonder what the experts think. The sweetie is thinking about a new grill. Ours needs replaced. She would like to know if anyone is using the new infrared grills and what you think, or if we should just buy a regular gas grill?

I have had a Charbroil InfarRed for 3 years. I love it. Worst part is it seams to take forever to burn the grease off. Other thing is the temp reads REAL high all the
time, but if you look at where the thermometer is, guess it should read hotter then it is.

Hello Pitalplace,

If you cook more then one time.each week, you will.have to replace the infrared part in
about 3 years. They infrared grates have tiny holes that clog up. They cook real good and
they also have the ability to burn natural gas with a kit. Mine is on natural gas, and it
is about 5years old. The cooking grates are going as well. I wil buy one with cast iron
grates and bronze burners next time. Learned my lesson.

Guido.

I recently purchased a gas and charcoal grill combo at Menards. Then I discovered all
gas grills on the market today don't have lava rock like my old grill did. I talked to
many and they all said the same think, junk. You might as well use your oven instead
of todays gas grills. Gas grills have hot spots between the burners and little heat
over the burner because it's covered with metal.

I modified my new grill using the rock out of my old grills.

I've never had an IR grill.

Charcoal is the only way to go if you want to have a grill flavor. Or do like I did
and add lava rock to a gas grill.

I like the grill I purchased because all the grates are coated.

I've had one for about 8 years now, works great. It's a Char Broil brand from Lowes I think. Wife uses it, I
take it apart and clean it about twice a year. Haven't had any problems, everything still looks good.
Everything is stainless, showing no sign of wear, and it gets used 2 to 3 times a week.

The times I have used it, I was impressed. Very controllable, no flare up. Wife uses the time method, puts
the food on, sets a timer, goes out and turns it when the timer goes off. That's how predictable it is!

30 plus years with weber grills I doubt I'll change to propane so I can grill a few minutes sooner. Everybody has their own opinions but nothing
taste as good as my grilling on charcoal.

Charcoal. I love the smell of lighter fluid in the morning. No gas to fuss with, not much to clean, inexpensive, simple unit outlasts a gas grille many times over. No substitute for the taste.
