Remote Hydraulics on tractors

I've always wondered, when using any tractor with remotes for whatever equipment, is there ever any concern about what fluid might be left in the lines, cylinder etc, and compatibility with whats in the tractor ? If so, whats best to avoid mixing fluids if its a problem? Would you drain the implement lines or cylinders or something? I've used remotes on tractors at times, more so helping a farmer doing spring planting, hay etc. but he had new equipment, same brand as his tractors, just plug and play for the most part, except when the 620 had pressure on the remote for some reason, could never get the lines connected, til I figured I needed to release the pressure off it.

I had gotten to thinking about this after I received a newer tractor with 2 pairs of remotes, and never recall ever speaking about it with anyone knowledgeable of same.

I use THF in all my tractors hydraulics.
I never borrow equipment from someone else.

The bad deal is contamination of metal shavings or water from a bad tractor....

In general the hydraulic fluids are about the same, mixed on small quantities like that, a quart or two isn't going to be much of a deal.

Many of us use universal tranny fluid so it works in all tractors, rear ends, etc and can all mix together fine.

Really, what can you do, you won't ever get them flushed out, it just has to go.

in past years before universal fluid used to drain hoses and work the cylinder open closed to get as much fluid out as possible
then refill with fresh proper fluid for that particular tractor, this was on same farm with three different tractors and two different fluids

As a kid I remember each tractor had its own remote. Had a hangar on the back of the tractor and the hose was held up with twine when the remote wasn't needed right away.
Only exception was the haybine and we always used the same tractor for that anyway.

Currently all my tractors with remotes use the same oil so I leave the remotes on machines.
