harbor freight electric chainsaw--

don't need a lecture on harbor freight quality.....has anyone owned, used or bought an electric chainsaw from them? We go thru big box ones like
crazy and the HB ones are a third less....anyone Know anything about them?

HF has a rap for being cheap, and there-for must be low quality. I have countless tools from there, and honestly I have yet to have a problem with any of them. Not to say they're bullet proof, but I wouldn't call them useless by a long shot.

Don't know about the saw, but I bought one of their 4-1/2 inch angle grinders for $9.99. It seemed noisy when I first turned it on, took the head off, and not enough grease in there to get my fingers dirty. Packed it with corn head grease, quiet now, and seems to have the same power as my older craftsman.

ive got a h/f pole saw with a electric 12 inch chainsaw on it, its only used occasionally, after 5 years, it still works

If you want an electric chainsaw that will hold up you need a saw with a 14 amps or more electric motor. The higher the amps the better the motor.

Bought one of those recently, figured it was cheap enough to take a chance. First, took others' advice and replaced the chain with a more-dangerous kickback-type chain, even before trying it. It cuts like a demon. Also took it apart and ditched the safety trigger and also checked the oil pump real well (another problem spot with this saw). Ran it without the chain to make sure the pump was working before putting chain back on. One problem is that the chain tends to jump ship if it binds a little sideways. Chain also has to be very tight, because there's relatively little to hold it in the bar. Fix that I read - but haven't done yet - is to put a dished washer on the end of the chain drive gear.

Not a bad saw for the money, so far. Hope this helps.

I don't own a chainsaw from HF. I do own 2 great electric chainsaws. They are Worx 18 inch 4 hp, sold at sears. Lowes sells the 16 inch model. They are called craftsman's at sears but they are actually Worx. You can pick them up on sale for $100 and it comes with a spare chain. After I wore out 2 chains, I decided to just purchase a second saw. Then I discovered it was cheaper to have chains made than buy the sears chains. The chain has 63 teeth, not a common 62 inch. It comes with an Oregon bar and chain. Check them out, I love mine. Have one at each place. I've cut an 18 red oak long with mine. Keep the chain sharp and they will impress you.

I just had a large branch fall out of a neighbor's tree and land on my property. It won't take me long to cut in to 10 ft long pieces, use backhoe with forks on front bucket and load it in dump trailer. Plan to move it to burn pile and make pot ash out it when there is snow on the ground.

I too bought a cheap $10 right angle grinder. Tried to remove cutoff wheel and the gear housing fell apart. I do have a great cheapie circular saw sharpener from HF. Can't count on the calibration of the angle device, but if you know how to set it up using a sharpie and a good eye, it works great.

Many things I buy from HF require two trips to town, one to buy it and one to return it. I try to stay away form things with a motor, wimps.

Bought HF EVOM to measure frequency, junk.

Keep receipt and junk items they will give you a refund.

The last time I purchased a leak down tester, HF told me I could return it. They told me too many people buy a tester, use it, return it and want a refund.

I purchased a timing light, it was so dim, I couldn't see the timing marks. They took it back and I purchased the other model they had, It worked great.

So if you buy a chainsaw, ask them if you can return it if it's junk? Or buy the extended warranty, then I think you can return it no questions. They are making it harder to return some items.

For me, I go past the store all the time, so returning thing isn't a big deal.

I got a Remington brand one that has done a lot of cutting the last 2 years. Last week I trimmed some branches running it on 200 ft. of cord and it had plenty of power. Light weight if you done't use the pole but still not to bad. I think I paid around $90 for it.

Over the past five or six years I have bought quite a few items from Harbor Freight, mostly items that I use only once in a while, but when you need it, you don't want to have to try and borrow one type things. I have carried only one item back and that was an 18V rechargeable drill that wouldn't change the torque setting. The replacement works great, the sawzall works like a charm, the cherry picker and load lever worked great recently when my son-in-law had to change engines in his car. I said all that to say this, if I needed an electric chain saw, I would not hesitate to try one from HF. Plus, as has been said, if you spend a few dollars and purchase the extended warranty, you are home free.

Don't know about HF saws but..... I've had three Remington's and the plastic gear always stripped out. So I got the next one up at Sears and it's been used and running for several years now. The switch did go bad last winter, so put in a new one. Package it came in said Husqvarna

I bought a Remington from the local hardware store several years ago. Been a great little saw- has many hours of use on it. Am going to HF this weekend and buy their electric pole saw. Guy at work has 1 and swears buy it, not at it.
