Nothing works better to set off rain then to cut a field of hay.
I cut 50 acres the day before yesterday and the thin crop would've been ready to bale today. The clueless WEATHERMAN had SAID NO RAIN EXPECTED IN THE NEAR FUTURE so i figured i may as well start haying and take of the little that was there before the grasshoppers beat me to it.
After getting only 1" of rain since april one our drought finally broke yesterday afternoon when the sky opened up with tunder lichting and rain and lots of it,..i got just shy of 4" overnight.(i hope it drowned most of the filthy hoppers:twisted:)
Hopefully the pastures recover quick so i don't have to sell the whole herd as that was what i was facing.
I am a happy man :)

Its shoddy about the hay but I am happy for you that you finally got some rain. Hopefully you get some more at the appropriate time to continue a good summer!

Interesting. I check weather.com and use their "weather in motion" to track storm cells. I'm in SE Michigan and their hourly forecasts on a daily basis are darn near right on. If they say it'll start/stop raining at 2:00 PM for my zip code, I can almost bet it will be accurate. Few weeks ago on a Saturday, they said it would rain until about 1, then clear up until 4. It cleared around 12:30 and I cut the grass until the rains came around 4:30. Can't beat that.

Do you live in an area where weather patterns are hard to predict? Can't believe with all the radar and such that they can be that clueless.

ell it must be cause they seldom get it right.

Only job you can keep and be wrong 50% of the time.

Hope it helps in keeping your herd. If you have to sell look into the sale barn in Durant, Ok. Prices are fantastic. There are haulers
that will ship them for you. Name is Cattleman's something...forget the rest. Course from your place to there is quite a distance and
this is summer.

On the hay, you know as well as I that a fast in and out rain won't hurt the crop all that much. Happens around here frequently.

They almost always can predict an hour ahead of time, but they cannot ever get it right 100% of the time 4-5 days out,not even 50% !!Mark

Even out here in CA where we only got 10" of rain we had a
decent grass year because the rains we got came at good time.
It is all dried up and gone now until fall.

Paul Harvey always used to claim that any forecast over 5 hours old is only 50% accurate.

That's great news.

Wish we could have shared with you since spring... we've been getting more rain than we need since the
end of April.

Liking the cool air you are sharing with us today.
