John Deere b

Well just took plug out of my 1944 john deere model b look like pure sludge and something growling underneath it ha! Don't think suppose look like that....I think from last post you guys said something about flushing crankcase out ? What would be the safe and best way to do so? Or should I just clean out what I can and use a good 10w 30 or 15-40 detergent oil run for a while then change it? I also removed filter cover to find out there was no filter ???not good !

Take the cover off that is ahead of the steering-wheel support.

Then you can look inside for blobs of sludge and flush them out with diesel or something similar..

For "Flushing", I would recommend some cheap oil, with a quart of Rislone added..

Run it for an hour or 2, then change that oil and you should be OK..

I like to add Rislone (to my Gas tractors I use in the Winter) in the Fall.. It cleans and thins the oil some which is both good for Winter use.

Remember to NEVER over-tighten the oil filter cup..

Black "Gasket Maker" will seal the Crank-case cover back up just fine..

Thanks..... See I went to change oil notice there was not filter so they must have been running non detergent oil in it? I open crank case and looked inside looked somewhat clean but......😖around pump and bottom there still is some sludge I thought about digging with my hand to push it out? I thought about doing that then adding some non detergent oil with the treatment and run it for a while then drain it again. My thoughts maybe was a valvoline brand non detergent oil .. Since cheap and easy to get, do that for few days then switch to a detergent oil 10w 30 then add the filter then?

Don't have time this morning but in day or 2 will post directions out of operators manual for your tractor for flushing.

NO..forget the Non-Detergent oils...they will not suspend dirt, so will not be worth a hoot for cleaning the engine...

The Rislone is a safe additive to use and will safely clean crap out of oil passages, etc..

Never run the engine without an oil filter..

Ron.
