What's a cyclone

The neighbor asked me what a cyclone was. She was reading her grand pa's diary and he mentioned a cyclone. My Dad had something he called a cyclone. As I remember it had a series of blades on the bottom half curved in one direction half the other. The blades were about 3 ft long. I think it was mainly used to cut weeds, as it didn't go very deep. Anyone seen one, or have one? Maybe just a west coast thing. Stan

David Pearson drove one powered by a Boss 429 (Ford's version of a Hemi).

This is a piece of old farm equipment it's only purpose was cutting weeds, as it has stationary blades on the bottom, and was pulled behind a tractor. Stan

The weather event that is called a hurricane in the northern hemisphere, is called a cyclone in the southern hemisphere. They rotate in opposite directions.

Just like flushing a toilet.
Do they really put pumps in the ones in the American Embassy so they swirl in the right direction?

It sounds like a brush hog, except the stationary blades. How would a stationary blade pulled behind a tractor cut anything? A rotary mower would have a similar appearance to a cyclone.

Maybe something like this?

Was years they were called a cyclone and then tornado name came out. And the feed grinder and seeder and so on came to be called a cuclone because of the air wirling the same way as in the storm.

Those were called a Typhoon when I was stationed on Okinawa. Is it different in Australia from the Far East- Japan, Okinawa, Philippines etc.?

Dry farming out here. Nothing green since march. This was used on dry soft ground to cut weeds. From the replays I guess this was not used east of the rockies. Stan

I think that hurricane and typhoon are the same thing, both in the northern hemisphere and rotate counterclockwise.

Again we call them cyclones here, and they rotate clockwise.
