Can anyone help?

Brand new to forums and please excuse mistakes if not posted properly..... Here is my Question...Does anyone know what kind of material the WD head is made of? Is is cast steel, cast iron or ????? Part number of head 241524, engine serial # wd 291131 ka.....Was 12 yrs old when this tractor delivered in 1951..... Just got it running this past Easter..
Thanks, Pop View Post :)

I understand that if its cast iron, it would be very difficult to weld... The outer exhaust ports are rounded off with about 1/4 inch gap. It needs to be built-up and re surfaced.

You can machine the side of the cylinder head 1/4" (I think) as-is and with a new manifold probably work just fine. As long as the governor/throttle plate lever doesn't rub the block and the muffler still comes thru the hood, I see no issues.

Good thought, I will look into that option....I have a 45 Side exhaust so no worry about going thru hood..... May be able to use the existing manifold as its not damaged.... Appreciate the info... Thank you and have a great evening...

Cast STEEL is actually not common at all! Two types of cast iron, gray iron which is probably what 80+/-%
of castings are, and DUCTILE or NODULAR iron also known years ago as "semi-steel" being probably 15-16%.
Rest is steel. There used to only be about 12-15 steel casting foundries in the US and one I know closed up
about 10 years ago. I'm not including foundries that pour stainless steel castings as a steel foundry.
They cater to a totally different set of customers.

There are lots of grades of cast gray iron, as well as many grades of ductile/nodular iron (just different
names for the same material).

Another thought is to have a spacer plate made to reset the manifold to original position. A CNC plasma torch is the answer. Local metal working and technical education schools have them. They will need a full scale tracing of the machined surface, or the manifold. Jim
