Way OT Golf Cart

I have a Harley Davidson golf cart that will not run well, no power in forward. It is a 2 cycle that runs one direction in forward and the other direction in reverse. It seems to have more power running in reverse. We have checked points, condenser, put in new plug, put new diaphram in carb. Has plenty of fuel, filter. Lines are not plugged. Nothing seems to work. Before you come down on me I will let you know that it is only used by my grandkids to shuttle between my house and theirs.

Is the timing off when it is in forward. Don't know how it could be anything else. Those old Fairmont rail car engines that is how you went from forward to revers.

Does it have reed valves?? If it does that maybe where you problem is. Those engine that run forward and backwards are odd balls at best. I have parts and pieces of a number of them from the EZ-go golf carts. You might also check if it is like the EZ-GO with 2 coils the forward coil maybe going bad

Something about Harley Davidson, and two cycle, they just don't belong in the same sentence. Anyway I have several Yamaha two cycles. I couldn't get one to run good. I found I had the choke in the wrong position. Another problem I had was on a 76 Yamaha. There were a few years with bad magnetos, too much electronics. Got a mag from a older bike, it worked fine. Are you sure you have a good blue spark? Stan

Old, got a forward/reverse lever for an 88 model? Maybe the whole switch too. Gasser.

I have one of those carts too. HD, built by AMF in the 70's.
They are meant to be run for short periods of time, not continuous.
The grankids burned the piston out of mine by running it too long.
So that experience brings me to recommending that you check
the compression to see if it is getting weak.
On the bright side, parts are available and relatively cheap if needed.

We bought a used Yamaha G1 back when my Grandpa was still with us- but could no longer climb onto his MI to head into the vineyard. Built a box on the back, it is handy as all get out. Engine did not like running in the dust, ate the rings up, plugged air filter helped destroy the crank seals. Short block later it runs great!

Just the other day it ceased starting- YouTube told me it was starter/generator brushes. Mine looked okay, but what the heck, for like $12 I ordered a set. Put them in tonight, now the starter solenoids don't even clunk like they did before pulling the starter. just dead, even with a good battery. Any guesses?

Just rebuilt the engine on a 72 Harley Davidson. Cylinder, piston, rings, gaskets were $145.00 on Ebay..
