Stackpole Church

After the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, King William 1st conquered south Wales. He installed his Barons as the rulers who built the castles and the churches in the 1100's.

This is a typical Norman designed church with watch tower; could be used in defense if the native Welsh went on the rampage. This Church was built in 1100's and rebuilt in the early 1800's. This one is at Stackpole on the southern coast of Pembrokeshire.

The original unrestored Norman cross in the churchyard.

The interiors are not elaborate but they all have beautiful stained glass windows.

To-day many are still in use for Sunday worship.

Hi WIZZO, thanks for posting I find it very interesting looks nice to me in & out, sure is nice when history is so well preserved.

Kind of makes a sixty-five year old running tractor look like a young pup. Compared to a 915 year old church.

A very well preseved church . The stained glass figures are quite similar to our 1900 church because our window was imported from England and was built in the 1600's . We hired a special glazer with tons of insurance to replace some of the led joints .

That's amazing. Thanks for sharing these pictures.

I bet that would be a great place to go metal detecting...
