♪ From the valley of the Jolly, ho ho ho, Green Giant.♫
Was that series of ads a local thing or was Green Giant national?
The Valley is only about 45 miles from me in Le Sueur, MN - home of the famous swap meet and of course, The Giant.
The Mrs is out of town so I'm on my own and making a late supper.
I sure do like these potatos. They're probably raised in Afganistan or some such place but the Giant does insure a good product.

I've heard that jingle in Texas forever, Green Giant is distributed nationwide as far as I know. Never really thought of the valley as being a real place!

that jingo was used for many years in Canada as well. Green Giant used to operate both freezing and canning plants in Ontario....now they have it packed for them on contract by a local canner/freezer operation here that also packs for other name and store brands. There is a sizeable premium attached to the Green Giant name!

Oh yes it's real! The Minnesota river valley. Soil so black and fertile and deap that the farmers have to wait until planting day to buy seed or the seeds will grow in the bags just from being close to the soil. Or so the story goes anyway.

I used to drive Semi for Eckrich when Con Agra owned that brand and when I would go into the Bacon plant in Ohio you could look through the windows and watch them packing bacon. Then if you looked along the side of the packing room you could see many many brands of bacon wrapping on rolls waiting their turn to be used to wrap what ever brand of Bacon was ordered next. Yeah Bacon is Bacon.

I believe the Green Giant overlooking the valley near Le Suer is just a billboard. There is an actual 55' tall Green Giant statue further down Hwy 169 in Blue Earth.

When Pillsbury bought Green Giant back in the late 1970 early 1980s, I hauled a lot in and out of LeSeure, Mn.
Is the sign with the Jolley giant still on the side of the road as you come into town?
I haven't been up that way in 25 years.

Sounds like the problem I had growing some watermelons in Central Indiana when I was teenager - the soil was so rich that the vines grew so fast that the watermelon rinds wore through and all the juice leaked out.

When I taught 6th grade in New Ulm. just west of "The Valley of the Jolly Green Giant", the veteran teachers would tell me that there were plans, drawings, and sketches of a proposed statue of the Jolly Green Giant that was to stand in his signature pose over the area where the billboard is in Le Sueur, where Hwy 169 would travel underneath him. That would be one tall statue!! If any one out there can confirm or even better, share a picture of the proposed Giant statue that would be something!!
