Urea and rain

Need a quick response please: I want to use my tractor to put out some top dress Urea. It just rained and 20-50% chances are in the forcast for the next several days. I am top dressing Bermuda regrowth after 1st cutting.

Question is, if you broadcast Urea on wet ground, other than possibly burning the leaves, will it go ahead and activate and not be lost to the atmosphere like if the ground were dry?

Thanks,
Mark

Aw Mark go ahead and sling it out after all it's only cost $$$$$$$.

Seriously some urea is clay coated to help stabilize it. I think ground moisture & morning dew's should melt urea.

You want Urea to wash in the ground via a rain so watch your weather forecast to know when rain is on the way and do it just ahead of the rain.

Boy that was quick. I just went outside and got the spreader mounted and came back in and here you guys were. Thanks.

The stuff is 33-0-0 from some place in Louisiana. Comes in a white plastic bag with green and red marking. Popular around here for small applicators looking for 50# sacks. Urea and Amn. Sulph. are the key ingredients. My black dirt likes the sulphur and I really prefer it to what you get at the bulk store, especially since I can keep it on hand and not worry about problems.

Thanks again,
Mark

I try to wait till rain is in the forcast to apply my urea. I have even put it on in the rain. If no rain is in the forcast we apply a stablizer called Agritane. Tom

I had my spreader on the tractor and ready. A couple of evenings ago it was dark to the west. I checked the internet and seen a storm coming and 80% chance of rain. I only had a few acres to cover and finished up in a light rain. We got a total of 1 inch in the storm. It couldn't have worked out better for me. For me that was ideal for speading nitrogen on my corn for my small operation.

As it is turning out, we had light showers off and on all morning and this is the first of a several day forecast for summer pop showers. Must be living right. Grin

I have been side dressing urea on my potatoes while hilling them. Works good if you can get it on while the ground is wet and more rain in the forecast.
