Old Gravity box

My tractor is running well, However, I do not need this old gravity box around.
Anyone know what the capacity was for 1960's box ? It's probably just a scrap thing anyway? I plan on keeping the running gear for sentimental reasons. This was my Dad's first wagon, came with a wood, flat bed and removable side boards. July 1948 I was using an H to move it closer to the combine for him. As I turned a corner, too sharp, the tractor wheel rubbed the tongue and rolled the wagon over, with 1/2 load of oats. I was 6 yrs old !

Forgot to get the pix attached.

I have one similar. Think it's about 125 bu. without extensions. 'Here' you could still get $150 to $200 for the box if it doesn't have holes in it. Have a friend who took one, put it next to the house with a nice looking enclosed lean-to built around it, and puts anthracite coal in it. The chute is positioned to dump into the basement through an window opening into the auto-stoker hopper.

well that is interesting. If I was going to an outdoor corn burning boiler for heat, I might use this to store the shell corn. Close to the boiler. ? ?

Worst case you could take the dimensions and calculate the volume.

A few years ago, old gravity boxes were popular for storing fuel for corn stoves. With lower corn prices those stoves could make a come back.

I'm gonna say 120. When we bought an Emco in the mid 60's,you could get a 120 or a 160. We got the 160. It had higher sides. It sure looks small now.

They work great for junk storage. Fill it up and haul the box and contents to the scrap yard. I have an old auger wagon that's ready to go if scap ever gets high enough to make the trip worthwhile.

That wagon looks like a small one maybe 100 bushel would be my guess.

Do you have any Amish communities nearby? That size is small enough that it wouldn't be hard to pull through a field. They always seem to separate the running gear and gravity box at auctions here, so I don't think that anyone would have an issue buying just the box. Do you have a consignment auction house around? We have one that has a sale about every three months. Last time I went I think there were five gravity boxes for sale. They went pretty high as I recall.
