4640 hydraulic fitting

Have a fitting above the fuel tank leaking hydraulic oil. Plan to go to town tomorrow and try and get one from the dealer, but will probably end up getting one from the salvage yard. There is a small hose that is pulled out of the t fitting, the hose goes back underneath the cab. Can someone tell me if this is return oil or what the small line goes to. There is also a wire by the fuel tank that is not plugged into anything, any idea what it should be plugged into? Fuel gauge works fine. Thanks for any help or information.

I have had several of those fittings come apart like that. I just cleaned the fitting and the small pipe up with carb/brake cleaner an Loctited them back together. It is just a low pressure return hose. IRC it is to bleed trapped air out of the steering circuit??? I do not remember for sure but the fitting is easily repaired.

IIRC, unused wire is for a non-existant optional horn. Oil cooler tee/check valve (AR81368) is about $50 from DEERE.

That fitting is part of the bleed system for letting that reserve tank fill up,,I remove these every time one is in the shop, they will make no difference in operation, and are a constant leak point. unbolt and remove the tank, pull the large hose off the cooler and reinstall it onto the fitting coming off the top of the pump, follow the little plastic line back to the rear of the engine cut and cap it with a small bolt/clamp. After you get all that removed and the oil out of the radiator your tractor will run much cooler, if you don't have a long enough hose to re-connect be sure to get "oil" hose,, heater hoes will not work..

Whenever I have one that comes apart, I tap the T for pipe and use a pipe to hose barb fitting. chris

Just delt with that on our 4440. Solution I used was jb welding the barb fitting into the aluminum block, 20 hrs of use later so far so good

You can easily get a brass pipe tee and either put barbed fittings in it, or get a barbed tee. In either case, simply drill and tap a hole into the side if the tee and install a smaller barbed fitting for the small line. In fact I believe you can actually buy tee fittings with the hole already drilled for use with a gauge.

Whatever that wire with the blue scotchlock splice on it goes too is trouble waiting to happen. I'd get rid of that and solder and heat shrink the wires for a permanent repair.

Thanks for all of the information, I was in a pinch to get it running so I gave the dealer there $50 for a new one, I will clean the old one up and Loctite it and put it on the shelf for insurance. The radiators cleaned up well, they look worse in the pictures than they actually were, I had just got done rolling beans so it had a lot of dry dust on it. Thanks again for all the help and information.
