Farmall Super A

Been looking to buy a Super A tractor, but I have noticed a lot of "Play" in the steering on these older tractors, and was wondering if there is an adjustment on them for this? Thanks!

There is no steering play "adjustment" for the Super A. You have to replace parts. All parts are available new accept for the steering worm. It's welded onto the end of the steering shaft. Good luck finding one used in better shape than the one you have. The balls on the older, one-piece, tie-rods can be built up and ground to size. I replaced mine with one-inch ball bearings. No problems so far.

First suspect would be the connection between the shaft coming out of the steering gear and the steering arm. There's a woodruff key there, and the key, and the keyway in both parts wear over time. A LOT.

This one had almost 1/2 turn of play. Got rid of 90% of it by making sure everything was tight and adjusting all the tie rod ends. All the tie rod ends have a cotter key and a slotted plug in the end for adjustment.
