MF 36 swather oil filter.

Little bit of a issue I am not sure how to solve. I am replacing all the fluids in the swather before I do any serious running of the engine. The unit has a four cylinder engine believed to be a Chevy. Manual only lists the Chrysler slant six so no help there. I want to replace the spin on oil filter but a lot of corrosive goo has eaten any numbers off the filter. How do I match up a filter to this engine? I am thinking there would be a serial number/model number on the engine somewhere that I could take to NAPA or such and maybe get a match? If so, where might such a number be? Likely have to scrub the whole engine to find it if it exists. So I am rambling here...any tips for matching an oil filter to an unknown engine?

If it's a Chevy 4-cylinder of that era, likely it's the Chevy II 153 CID engine.

They take the same filter as an sbc of that era.

Short filter, WIX 51046, for a bit longer filter, WIX 51069, even longer, WIX 51051, depending upon what's on there/how much room you have.

Obviously, any auto parts store can cross those WIX #'s to their brand.

Any casting numbers/logos on the engine? Cousin had a 36 swather decades ago but I don"t remember what engine it had. I wonder if yours was changed?

I don't think so. About half of the people I have had comment on this machine say they have a four cylinder engine.
