Any one seen one of these or better yet used one? It's supposed to be some type of hay rack that would carry a load from a wagon up and into a hay mow of a barn. What is the correct name?

I've used different styles of rope slings and rope/2x2 cross piece slings, but never heard of one like this!!

There appears to be a grapple (spelling?) fork to the left with a white sign attached. They were used to pickup loose hay from a hay rack. Into the 1970's my uncle used one to lift eight small square bales at a time. The bales had to be stacked in the right pattern for the grapple to hold them together. We could only get 64 bales on a 14 foot long hay rack that was normally loaded with 90+ bales.

I've never seen anything like the large frame in the fore ground.

What is that small implement with the one drive wheel that drives a pitman shaft and has a belt pulley with a belt up to a jack shaft?

Oh I see now. That jack shaft is actually a reel and the implement is actually a small grain binder or harvester.

I think that they were called "Reapers" back in the day; they were the forerunner of the binder.

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question. However, sure would like to have a look around in there at all the other stuff. gajack

come out and have a look. This is inside Agri Hall at Farmamerica, the Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center. We just received this hay unit. Check the web site www.farmamerica.org
