Straigtening a Trailer Frame

I bought this trailer and didn't notice that the frame was bent. Looks like someone over loaded it. The frame is 4" channel, maybe 3/16" thick. One side has a small crack at the bottom of the channel near the Y. Any thoughts on how to straighten it? I thought maybe wedging it or chaining it to a tree and pulling on the frame with a come-along or the tractor. The trailer will be just used for light duty, hauling dogs to field trials. Probably no more than 200 pound load--six beagles at 25-30 pounds.

That is caused because that cross member is not at the bend. The only way to make that good is to either move the current cross member or add another right at the bend. The new one needs to be full height too. This is why I've said I don't like pj bumper trailers, they are built the same way they just use heavier beams so they get away with it til they don't anymore.

I would probly remove the axle and place the frame on stands level. Then cut the hitch off at the bend and weld it all back level and square with an added cross member like jon said. I would probly make a coupla plate gussets over the top of the added cross member at the bends also.

A 2" schedule 40 pipe welded to the cross member over the axle, and through the center of the front cross member then welded into the coupler plate will do the task with little work. The bends at the outside are dramatically weak. With the added pipe they become stabilizers not weight bearing members. Jim

my neighbor bent the frame on his belly mower on his tractor. He took it to a local body shop and they straightened it on his frame machine.
