Looking at the tick post earlier and reading the comments about deer populations. Here in SE Michigan we have a lot of deer. Driving on the freeway this week as chase vehicle for the swather I was estimating 2-3 dead deer per mile. At least 1 per mile on the secondary roads. Never seen the like of it in the past. Problem comes with the recent influx of moisture and heat. The old Chevy C-20 has no AC, just pull vents in the floor and side vents by the windows. Works real well to keep you comfortable, but those dang deer had the truck smelling like a tannery most of the trip. Nasty business.

How many is a hunter aloud to harvest up there per season. I wouldnt mind comin up and helping to cull them out next season.

For some reason it seems to be very difficult for game managers to get the deer kill permits right for ending up with a deer population that is healthy, with adequate animals available to make buying a hunting license worthwhile and still keep the population at a level that doesn't make live miserable for farmers and non-hunters. Quite frankly, I've seen individual landowners do far better at managing wildlife on their properties than any state agency.

We have a lot living right in town. The edge of town, next to the interstate, is overrun with deer, and lots of turkeys, too.

Two winters ago, M46 between Rich Rd and Bliss Rd there were 24 in that 2 mile stretch at one time. That's a pretty heavy deer crossing area anyway, and coupled with that terrible winter and hard to find food, it was really bad through there.

Just put a heavy duty bumper on your truck and hunt them on the roads legally year round. LOL

I run I-69 between Flint and Lansing, and US23/I-75 between Hartland and Saginaw. Tons of dead deer year-round.

Agreed. That was what it was like when I was a kid. If you saw a deer is was something special - now you are lucky to NOT see one on the drive home.

I really think they should just have open season for a few years and forget about tags and licenses.

Yup ..state approved mile markers. Just a few minutes ago in my back yard. A buck with four nobs in velvet. There was a doe in the bushes. Fooling around? he he They were nibbling the lawn back there. Noon time and in south jersey. As far as I care you can shoot every one of them!

vermin
same here in wny
rode motorcyles my whole life and have never seen
anything like it.
I know my tombstone will read..the deer finally got him.
The small numbers of very serious hunters left in my area
all go to the 'Southern Tier' to hunt.
(I'm guilty of that too)
The extra 'permits' being given aren't going to do it.
They need to let us country dwellers take care of the problem for a few years.......
majestic creatures...hmmph...put a showy rack on a rat...it's still a rat.

possible solution,
[i:eee702f886]Require[/i:eee702f886] that a doe be taken before your buck tag is valid.
Lots of rack chasing hunters and older hunters that have been ingrained with the 'no does' mindset. We have to figure out a way to make them take does.

Currently you are allowed 2 bucks and 5 does in Ingham county MI, However they just had a confirmed case of CWD ( Chronic Wasting Disease)in northern Ingham county and there will be unlimited doe tags available in the core area in hopes of thinning the herd there down to almost nothing.

I agree wholeheartedly 100%.Deer need to be eradicated;we wiped them out once because they were no good for anything and it should be done again. We fight terrorists around the globe-well here's a battle we can win and need to.The money and lives they cost are unacceptable.Mark

you can take 4 does and 2 bucks here in north carolina. some cities will have an extended bow season a week after the regular season ends for about 1 more month. I hunt that season also. I took 1 buck and 8 does this last season myself.

1) If they want to keep track of what's taken from where, they could sell licenses per zone and just fill it when you can.
2) Open season all year
3) Extend the season for a month or more

Many things they could do but to stupid, (PETA whipped?)to think of it

I'm convinced roadkill deer are the main source of food for buzzards in SC. Don't see near as many per mile dead here as you have in the upper Midwest, maybe 1 per mile. The buzzards know what a hay cutter means, they fly over the field after you cut hay.

That's because the land owner has a vested interest.

I'm doing my part to thin the herd wife makes about 10 different things out of deer meat, but come hunting season most on here will carry on about Food Plots, baiting etc etc.
So how sporting is to kill a deer with a car going 60 MPH?
