What's Up With These Ticks?

 I have gotten 3 ticks off in the last few days. The first one was a result of cutting up some trees down in the woods and brushing up against all kinds of overhead branches etc. The next two came off of one of the dogs, I am sure. They get treated with the stuff from the vet that keeps them tick/flea free. I guess the ticks decide the dogs ain't so tasty anymore, so they try to get a free meal off of me! Guess I need to treat myself with some of that there flea/tick dog stuff! :? It has been a long time before this, several years at least, of finding a tick on myself. What up with these things? Some kind of 7 year infestation or something?

My wife and I have both had them it has been a bad spring for ticks this yr. in SW NH.

Can't speak to the 7 year idea, but has been very bad here in South Central PA too. Finding myself picking them off after walking through the mowed yard.

Lots of them here in WI this year, too. I typically have
two or three on me all year; I've already had five, and
pulled half a dozen off the dog.

Very bad here in West Pa also. Last night the 5 year old grandson found one when he first jumped into the bathtub; that is the 3rd one for him. Daughter in law who is a school nurse says hardly a day went by this spring that she didn't take one off of a child. We keep the little "Tick Twister" tools handy in the summer. We had no ticks and no deer here in WPA when I was a kid 70 years ago now too many deer and ticks.

I keep the lanes mowed short and well back from the fields. Don't need to wander thru the brush. We have ticks here and plenty of them. Been lucky enough to keep them off me so far. Dogs pick them up now and again. Don't know if Cutter or similar work on ticks, but I use it around my ankles.

We have them bad here in California. They are active April thru mid August in certain places. There is no caunting them,if you go there you get covered with them. I do not let my dog out, there is nothing that will keep them off. There is a smaller tick that is active Dec.- Jan. No 7 year cycle, they come every year here.

Shoot I have been dealing with them since back in March. Any time you get out in tall grass or under a number of tree you can figure you will find at least one on you

Had a tick on my blue jeans leg a couple weeks ago and pulled one off the old cats ear a few days ago, first ticks I've seen in 30 years I bet.

I walk in the woods along stream banks for a living. I have had close to a 100 on me but luckily only one imbedded in me. They are horrible this year. The first one I had was end
of March. This is SW PA.

I had four on me a couple of days ago and two yesterday. None stuck. I think I have had more than the dogs, but considering I run dogs at least three or four times a week, I guess we are all lucky. Haven't found that many on them.

billy, i have used that sawyer product and it works really well. i have some property in arkansas and have been clearing it any chance i get down there. usually in june. 100 degrees and the ticks will drag you off. chiggers also. this stuff works great.

That has got to be an interesting job! Must see all kinds of wildlife; ever see any snapping turtles. we catch them here in WPA, grandson caught one today in Beaver County.

We see awesome stuff. Saw some hellbender salamanders last week, turtles, always see deer and turkeys. Lots of awesome scenery too. Plus I get to see lots of old rusty iron that if I could buy I would. But then I would need another job to pay for all the stuff I bought.

(quoted from post at 07:46:14 06/05/15) Permethrin applied to clothing will work. See the link below.

Excellent! I'll have the red head get me some of this! I've been doing a lot of trail clearing where the little pines have grown up to about 6' tall. Seems every time I use the bush hog cutting them down, ticks are on me. I do brush up against a lot of leafy limbs etc too. I haven't seen any deer hanging out around the house this summer but there is lot of prints down in the woods on the trails after it rains...so they are there!

Legalize DDT for one year, just one year, and we won't see ticks, fleas, or mosquitoes for another 20 years, and not like this for another 50 years.

Figured I'd pick a few up today. I ALWAYS spray myself GOOD with OFF or Cutters, though. I don't think the brand matters, it's the DEET you want, so whatever's got it. Today I had to walk from my truck thru the lanes few hundred yards that I haven't cut yet this year. Thigh high grass, lots of deer tracks. Got home, checked my clothing, took a shower: NO TICKS. I was surprised. Not so sure about the dogs, but the stuff we put on them kills them off.

The ticks are just nuts here in central ND this spring. Fixed fence for about an hour a couple days ago in tall grass and picked about 25 deer ticks off. And I had sprayed deep woods off on boots and pant legs. Mama picked 3 out of her hair last night and blamed ME...
