I had an EXIDE group 1 6 volt, 1 year guarantee battery die at 14 months in my 8N. Anyone having better luck with any other brand?

I've had good luck with Car Quest 6volt batteries. Just stay away from Eural King batteries. They replaced 3 in their first 6 months. The last replacement died a month past warranty.

At one time in the past, we bought our tractor batteries (Excide) at Tractor Supply.

They were 6 volt batteries for the M, three MTs, and one for the pony motor on the 70 diesel.

Several of them did not last 12 months, would return them for replacement.

Got tired or replacing them, so started buying Interstate batteries.

I got mine about maybe 4 years ago for the Farmall B from Tractor supply and has yet to give me any trouble but is on battery tender when tractor is not in use.

About 4 yrs. ago I had the batt. box out of my Super C while install a new gauge, popped the caps off to check the acid level and the plates looked like they were ready to fall apart, was starting fine but was about 12 years old, a Farm/Fleet 6 volt and that's what I replaced it with.

Most of these tractors with 6 volt batteries do not get used on a daily, or even weekly basis, which really should make no difference, but it seems that the 6 volt batteries no longer are built with the same quality as they were 40 to 50 years ago. The best thing you can do for your 6 volt tractors is hook up one of those battery maintainers any time the tractor is parked for more than a few days. I have found those things to be a real money and frustration saver.
