7 1/2 foot finish mower

I'm looking at buying a good used 7 1/2' finish mower, something like a Woods RM990 or Caroni 93". Woods seem easy to get parts for but with the Caroni, looks like Agri Supply is the only parts dealer. I know there are other brands out there. Anyone have any recommendations? thanks

I have a 6 ft wood finish mower, like it. I wouldn't want a bigger one unless I was
mowing a perfectly flat golf course and mow the lawn every few days. That's going to be
a lot of grass coming out of one place.

Woods you can count on getting parts.

A rear discharge can eliminate the wind rows, but I also see a whole lot of scalping going on unless you cutting in the 4" to 6" range.
Then, what's the point of a "finish mower"?

I second the Land Pride idea. I have a 23 year old 7 1/2 foot Land Pride mower . Mow about 20 acres every two weeks . In 23 years I have only had to replace gearbox .These , as are the Woods , are superbly engineered but expensive puppies in 2015 dollars.

Farm King/Buhler is a good brand that is between the high and low ends on price. I would recommend a rear discharge in any finish mower that way you do not have the windrow of grass that you get with a wider one.

Of the Woods or Caroni. Woods makes a good heavy unit. The Caroni is a cheaper light unit that actually does a fairly good job mowing but it will not hold up like the Woods would.

JD,
What kind of job would a rear discharge finish mower do? The old corn stock choppers were rear discharge, left and right side discharge too. When I used an old corn stock choppers as a finish mower, I wasn't happy how it left my yard. Very difficult to mulch leafs too. Didn't mulch the grass either, just cut it in longer pieces than a side discharge mower would.

My woods RM660 is a right side discharge. Yes, you have to be careful about the windrow of grass you can make if you let the grass get too high. I can't imagine adding another what a 7 1/2 ft finish mower unless I wanted to bale the hay later.

My mower is LandPride AT3590 [ side discharge ] . Yes ,it windrows but if one goes slow enough it will cut 6" and 7" grass like a lawn. Saw some of the later LP models for sale at Tractorhouse [ rear discharge ] not sure they are as beefy as the earlier ones . I haven't actually inspected one in-the-flesh.
