I used CARQUEST 80W-90 gear oil GL-5 and it seems to foam a little. Is this oil ok for the 8N. thanks

gmoose........in 1939, Ford specified 5-gals of 80wt gear oil, they now recommend spec: M2C-134D. Caution on GL-5: it can have additives that are NON-friendly to BRASS. As fer foaming, you could be over-filled or under-filled. Hint: remove the bottom 6-o'clock bolt of yer 6"-roundy dipstick plate and let enny over-fill drain down the outside of yer tranny. Iff'n nuttin' drains yer under-filled. Which means MORE fill'em-up by the tranny shifter. My bet, 'cuz of the bubbles, yer under-filled and the gears are whippin' it up like puddin'........Dell

hi, Do NOT use 90wt gear oil. Use a mineral oil. If you are in the Cold, you will have
trouble this winter. Ford was always specific about that. Chuck

Marks on a non original dip stick may not match level at bolt hole. You could use dipstick, but first make sure marks match the hole.
