I spent 35 years in commercial nuclear so I have to know how you settled on "K effective". I only know of one reference.

I was thinking of Kl [buckling of steel columns], a method I always thought was not real accurate.

In the nuclear world, K effective is the result of accounting for factors related to neutron propagation such as absorption in non-fuel and neutron leakage out of the core. If Keff is <1 then the reactor is subcritical. If Keff >/=1 then the reaction is self sustaining.

I started to use it on another message board years ago, and just stayed with it everywhere now for simplicity.

No Navy experience, but commercial power likes to hire us farmers now, not so likely to take a better offer when you own acreage nearby. In fact, my shift of NLOs has only one Navy vet, and he wasn't a nuke. Two distinctly different worlds, but I am trying to blend them each.
